Congress silent on combating corruption: Lok Satta Party

The Lok Satta Party, headed by bureaucrat-turned-politician Jayprakash Narayan, today faulted the Congress for not coming up with a coherent and integrated policy to combat poverty and unemployment in its manifesto.
Reacting to the Congress&apos2009 election manifesto, released here today, the Lok Satta Party said it was significantly silent on mitigating corruption.

In a press release issued here, the party leaders, P Ravi Maruth and P Bhaskar Rao, said the manifesto”did not promise”free and quality education and health care to all, irrespective of their caste or religion.

It is true that nearly 2,25,000 people have been enabled to undergo surgeries under Rajiv Arogyasri scheme. Advertising this, the Congress has sought to”conceal”the fact that millions of people do not benefit under the Arogyasri, the leaders charged.

The duo also pointed out that the Congress has”not spelt out”any strategy to tackle the growing unemployment in the wake of the economic downturn in the country.” That more than 11 lakh youth applied for 844 Group IV posts in the state mirrors the magnitude of the problem,”they said.

It had not talked of making agriculture remunerative and warding off suicides by farmers. It publicised loans at three per cent to women as revolutionary, even as the government”ruined”their lives by promoting liquor consumption, they alleged.
